The Ascent of Scafell Pike

At 3210 feet the summit of Scafell Pike is the main objective of many visitors to Lakeland. The Lake District’s greatest fell walker, A. Wainwright, wrote of the summit “the ultimate; the supreme; the one objective above all others; the highest ground in England”.

This walk is demanding and should not be taken lightly, demanding an understanding of the risks of weather and conditions together with all the proper equipment. However it is within the capabilities of those with a reasonable state of fitness.

The itinerary is merely a suggested route from Wasdale Head, it is not a guide and the advice for proper maps, guides and protective clothing must be followed.

We would like to offer personal thanks to the volunteers of Wasdale mountain rescue and urge walkers to avoid making their jobs any harder.
