The attractions of West Cumbria are spread but worthwhile exploring. The best involve the natural landscape including the Cumbrian coast and the local Lake District valleys of quiet unspoilt Ennerdale, dramatic Wasdale and lovely Eskdale.

However there is a selection of tourist attractions that are all worthy of a visit.

In Whitehaven the Rum Story and The Beacon provide information and interest in the local history with exhibitions that encompass facts with humour.

Nearby Ravenglass offers the superb gardens of Muncaster castle combined with the narrow gauge Ravenglass and Eskdale railway.

The aquarium at Maryport has received much acclaim and the numerous reminders of the area’s Roman history are available throughout the area.
